Dr. Alexia Tsakiris BVetMed, GDipVWHM, CVA, RH (AHG), FACVBM

Dr. Alexia Tsakiris was born and raised on the Jersey shore. She received her B.S. from Cook College, Rutgers University in 2000 and graduated with her BVetMed from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2005. Since graduation, she has worked as a small animal veterinarian focusing on internal medicine. An acupuncture lecture at a veterinary conference in 2008 sparked her interest by the prospect of being able to further help her patients, and it is all history from there.

Expert in holistic veterinary medicine

Dr. Alexia studied veterinary acupuncture at Chi University in Florida where she received her Certificate of Veterinary Acupuncture in 2009. She went on to study herbal medicine with the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies (CIVT) receiving her Certificate of Veterinary Herbal Medicine (Western) in 2014 and Graduate Diploma of Veterinary Western Herbal Medicine (GDipVWHM) in June of 2017. The fall of 2018 Dr. Tsakiris joined the faculty of the CIVT as an adjunct professor. As herbal medicine is her true passion, she studied David Winston’s Clinical Herbalist Program (2014-2016) and is a Registered Herbalist through the American Herbalist Guild (the highest accreditation for human herbal medicine). A believer that food is medicine, she took advanced training in food therapy at the Chi Institute to earn her certificate in food therapy in 2019. In 2023, she was accepted as a Fellow of the American College of Veterinary Botanical Medicine.

Dr. Alexia has lectured nationally, as well as internationally.

Since 2016, she has exclusively been practicing holistic veterinary medicine. She exclusively practices holistic veterinary medicine: acupuncture, herbal medicine, food therapy, laser, nutraceuticals and bodywork (including spinal manipulation, reiki and massage) at Naturopawthic Veterinary Wellness Center, in Red Bank, New Jersey.

She has two beautiful boys and dog Lulu, who keep her busy.

After the passing of Margarita, her beloved dog of 14.5 years, she took a deep dive into her grief and developed a 3 part series on Grief for Pet Parents. In 2020, she created Naturopawthic Courses, an education platform for pet parents, where this and other online classes are available on demand. Dr. Alexia believes that an empowered pet owner is essential to be proactive in their pet’s health care and to be part of the wellness team.

Her other passion is providing veterinarians with the tools they need to be energetically aligned in their home and work lives. She founded Project Kefi and Vet in Balance in 2019 to support vets who want to find their passion in vet med again through one on one coaching as well as workshops and retreats. Project Kefi works closely with veterinary specialists and coaches to create integrative continuing education opportunities as well as offering consulting services for veterinary practices looking to implement integrative medicine.

The Women’s Veterinary Collective was birthed in 2021 providing women veterinarians a platform to support one another to create a sustainable profession.

She is 30hr certified Radiant Child Yoga teacher and volunteers at her sons’ school teaching yoga. In 2020, she earned her 200hr YTT certificate with Ohana Rising Yoga School.
